Connecting Chinese & Western Cultures: Yunhe Wooden Toys Gain New Global Popularity

Recently, M511 Light and Shadow Hub, a new cultural and tourism landmark built by Zhijiang Film Group under Zhejiang Cultural Industry Investment Group Co., Ltd., opened. Simultaneously, the IP activation special exhibition "Daily Empathy, Inheritance as Such" co-created by Zhejiang Light and Shadow Space Cultural Creativity Co., Ltd., Zhejiang Ancient Architecture Design and Research Institute Co., Ltd., and Yunhe County Agricultural and Tourism Investment and Operation Co., Ltd. kicked off. Linking with the IP of Notre-Dame de Paris, the exhibition ingeniously integrates traditional Chinese ancient architectural art with Yunhe's intangible cultural heritage (ICH) wooden toy craftsmanship, innovatively presenting the harmonious integration of Eastern and Western cultures. The exhibition lasts for one month.

Yunhe wooden toys, as an ICH item of Zhejiang Province, are not only the crystallization of traditional wisdom but also wonderful works that combine education with entertainment and inspire children's hearts. With craftsmanship passed down unbroken since the Ming and Qing dynasties, Yunhe, known as China's Wooden Toy City, has risen brightly like a pearl, opening a new era for the modern inheritance and development of ancient craftsmanship.

"The design inspiration of this exhibition comes from classic elements such as traditional Chinese wood structures, mortise and tenon joint craftsmanship, and the wooden structure of Deshou Palace Corridor Bridge. It cleverly incorporates the contrast and echo between Chinese and French wooden structures. From spatial layout to color matching, we strive to perfectly present the integration of traditional cultural charm and modern aesthetics," said Meng Jie, person in charge of Yunhe County Agricultural and Tourism Investment and Operation Co., Ltd.

In the elaborately arranged exhibition area of the hall, ancient architectural models provided by Zhejiang Ancient Architecture Design and Research Institute and Yunhe's ICH wooden toy handcrafts are on display. While appreciating the artistic beauty, visitors can also delve into the core structure of traditional Chinese ancient architecture—mortise and tenon joints—and personally experience its exquisite craftsmanship and endless charm.

In the interactive experience area, visitors have the opportunity to personally participate in wood structure DIY, including the production of classic woodworking such as mortise and tenon joints, corridor bridges, and Luban locks, so as to deeply understand the beauty of traditional Chinese wood structures. At the same time, the product sales area is also an eye-catching highlight—Yunhe's wooden toy cultural and creative products and local specialties are highly favored by visitors. These cultural and creative masterpieces designed inspired by Yunhe's natural treasures and humanistic customs, traditional Yunhe wooden toys, and newly launched wooden toys all made wonderful appearances in this exhibition.

"Our curatorial approach this time not only promotes international cultural exchange but also showcases the unique local cultural charm of Zhejiang, enhances the brand awareness and influence of Yunhe's ICH wooden toy handcrafts, and drives the sales of these handcrafts, which has been praised by many exhibition guests," said Meng Jie. "The exhibition 'Daily Empathy, Inheritance as Such' has been open to the public for free since October 1st, lasting for one month. We hope every visitor on site can discover more subtle and magnificent charm of traditional Chinese ancient architecture here."
