1. Plush Toys
Before cleaning plush toys, first determine whether you want to remove dust or wash them with water.
Dust Removal: To remove dust, try wiping the toy with an old stocking. Let the dust adhere to the stocking and wipe repeatedly until the dust is removed.
Water Washing: There are two ways to wash with water: hand washing or machine washing. For machine washing, consider the filling of the plush toy. If it contains accessories such as a music box, sequins, or eyes, or if it is a doll filled with a lot of cotton, it is not suitable to put it directly into the washing machine for stirring to avoid damage.
Warm Reminder: Whether hand washing or machine washing, you can add some mild detergent suitable for infants and young children. For machine washing, use warm water and put the toy in a mesh bag or cover; for hand-washed toys, gently scrub with a small brush, rinse off the detergent thoroughly, and then dry in the sun or air-dry.
2. Soft and Hard Plastic & Silicone Toys
When cleaning such toys, check if there are any electrical devices inside. Whether they are plug-in or battery-powered, do not let moisture get inside to prevent rust. You can wipe them with an alcohol-water solution mixed in a 1:1 ratio.
For toys without electrical devices, spray the above-mentioned alcohol-water solution lightly on the toys in the sink, wait for one minute, and then clean them thoroughly. Harder plastic toys, such as Lego or rattles, can be rinsed in the dishwasher; as for silicone toys, they can be sterilized by boiling—simply put the toys in boiling water for sterilization.
3. Cleaning Dolls with Hair
If there are little girls at home, there must be dolls with hair such as Barbie dolls, which are surely the most troublesome to clean! For braided hair, clean it with water and lay it flat to dry. If the hair is tangled and messy, rub some hair conditioner on it, then clean and dry.
For stains on the doll's body, you can use some baking soda water or oil-water solution and wipe the dirty areas in a circular motion with a cotton swab. If the stain is stubborn, dip a cotton swab in makeup remover oil and wipe the stain to easily remove it. For sterilization, mix alcohol and water in a 50% ratio in a spray bottle, spray and wipe the toy, and the sterilization process is complete.
4. Cleaning Wooden Toys
Wood has antibacterial properties, but we still need to avoid viruses and bacteria remaining on wooden toys.
We can wipe wooden toys with a cloth soaked in white vinegar for disinfection and sterilization. Wooden toys do not need to be cleaned frequently, and rest assured that the smell of vinegar will evaporate in a short time after the toys are wiped, so no odor will remain!
